L'Oréal Fashion Week
I'm not an ungrateful person. I really do appreciate that with my L'Oréal Fashion Week media pass comes a bag full of goodies.
This season's haul, like most seasons, is heavy on L'Oréal product and other beauty supplies. This is the subject of my first (and hopefully not last) thank you to the Fashion Design Council of Canada:
Thank you, FDCC, for allowing me to pick up my media pass and accompanying swag before fashion week. It's hard enough for me to convince people I'm straight without eyeliner falling out of a purse-like tote at the opening shows.
The other upside of the early pick-up is that I don't have to stand in line for my pass as the first shows hit the runways. It's been a problem in the past, so it's nice to see the FDCC address that.
During New York's Olympus Fashion Week I really enjoyed Flare editor-in-chief Lisa Tant's daily runway updates, so I'm going to try to do something similar (uhhh... with less Lindsay Lohan). Although I'm not nearly qualified to comment on the clothes, I do believe Canadian designers are especially inspired when they create for winter. If I can't think of anything witty, I'll probably link to whatever Flare is posting.
Fashion Week is just days away now, and it should be interesting to see how the absence of media darlings like Beckerman, Arthur Mendonça and Paul Hardy affects the mood. Long-time supporters like Harebell, Rosa Costanzo and Ula Zukowska are also not on this year's schedule, and if there isn't a marked improvement in the organization of this year's event things could get ugly quickly.
Speaking of this year's schedule, I've given up waiting for the FDCC to post one that displays reasonably on my BlackBerry, so I made my own. Feel free to use it, but don't take it as the official source. The FDCC has changed their online version several times in the past couple weeks (like when Jason Matlo's timeslot mysteriously disappeared) and I'm done with trying to keep up with changes until Monday.
I'm really excited to see Pink Tartan's lineup (I've already seen a lot of the clothes, and they're great), as well as favourites like David Dixon, Misura, Izzy Camilleri, Envers, Andy The-Anh and Chulo Pony. Even more, I'm excited to see which new models can make their presence felt, and which returning models can steal a show. I'll let you know.
