Lots of recent developments from Next in Montréal, including the addition of M.I.M's Santana.

The 5'9" 17-year-old is someone Modelresource has had its eye on since the summer of 2008, and we're loving the way she's looking right now.

Also shown below are recent campaigns from some of the agency's more established faces, with some of Montréal's top designers.

edge models' Jocelyn Chew
Modelresource's latest featured model may call Canada's West Coast home, but she's currently working on the other side of the continent.

Vancouver Island's Jocelyn Chew is spending this winter in Miami.

The edge models' 17-year-old, in addition to her regular work in sunny south Florida, is also direct-booking to New York (with Wilhelmina in both markets), and recently shot an editorial for Picture Magazine's May edition.

I Model Mgmt's Amanda Balsdon
Last year at this time, Amanda Balsdon was in Paris, on the verge of opening Commes des Garçons.

This season sees the I Model Mgmt brunette in Milan, where the shows are about to get underway.

Shown here are new images of the 5'10½" Calgarian from Hong Kong's Zip Magazine.

Kelsey Van Mook (Next)
opening Milly by Michelle Smith
New York's Mercedes Benz Fashion Week ended Thursday, and with that a farewell to Bryant Park.

Following 17 years under the tents, next season shifts to the Lincoln Center, just west of Central Park.

Canadians were well represented again this season, with Taryn Davidson, Kate Somers, Tara Gill and Addison Gill figuring strongly.

Alana Zimmer and Meghan Collison both did less shows than in previous seasons, opting for more select bookings.

The most noticible Canadian face may have been Kelsey Van Mook, who shows up on 19 different New York runways in Next Canada's Facebook fan page, including the opening of Erin Fetherston and the opening & closing of Milly by Michelle Smith.

Other Canadians whose international profile got a big boost this week include:

  • Chantal Stafford-Abbott, whose first NY season included turns for Marc Jacobs and Michael Angel.

  • Anaïs Poulliot, who opened Wayne, and walked for several others including Lacoste.

  • Sydney Edmonds, who made her long awaited New York debut, showing up in places like Alexander Berardi, Thuy and Milly by Michelle Smith. (by the way, if you haven't already seen it, check out this amazing video of Sydney, shot by Christopher Wadsworth).

  • Ali, a 5'10" West Coaster, who picked a number of shows including Marc Jacobs.

Fashion season shifts to London now, and with that, goes our attention.

NOTE: In a odd Canadian quirk, Montréal's fashion week (March 1st - 4th) ends more than three full weeks before Toronto's (March 28 - April 1st) starts. The Fashion Design Council of Canada has just now released this season's Toronto schedule (with a lot of To Be Announced spots), and the proposed venue is still a mystery.

Seeing Mackenzie Duncan's continued growth in this industry has been, for me, quite gratifying.

One thing Modelresource takes a lot of pride in, is the ongoing support and exposure we provide to emerging photographers, and Duncan is one we've been closely following for a couple years.

Yesterday the Montréal-based Vancouver Islander was shooting for one of the biggest clients in Canada (more on that to follow), and pictured here - for the second straight season - is his contribution to Rudsak's imaging.

Also appearing for the second straight season is Felix Bujo, while Ryan Martel is in for consecutive campaign number four!

    Folio's Masha
Modelresource got its hands on Folio's show package the other day, which was especially useful following the recent demise of Giovanni and the subsequent shuffle that ensued.

Many of Montréal's busiest runway models were with Giovanni, and trying to track the diaspora has been a bit of a task.

Christiane Lacroix, Gabi, Magalie Daignault, Marie-Hélène McCormack and Stefanie Nazoyan are just a few of the recent transfers, joining the ranks alongside established Folio faces like Ryan Martel and Masha.

One face not appearing in the package is Charlotte Le Bon.

The almost-too-beautiful-to-be-real Montréal native can be seen here however, in this sultry new ad for Parfum si Lolita.

    Anita Norris' Andrea Pearl
Modelresource first told you about Andrea Pearl almost exactly a year ago.

Since then we've reported on her budding career many other times, but it's been a while since the last occassion.

Despite our extended silence, the Anita Norris model has indeed been busy.

Her recent trip to Japan led to a bunch of work, some of which is included here.

    Sam Whitman in GQ Taiwan
Modelresource told you the other day about Brandon Wilson, a top Canadian model without representation in Canada.

    Sam Whitman's story is similar.

Also from B.C. (White Rock, in this case), 6'2" Whitman has been modelling for two years.

According to Modelresource contributor Kelly Foss, who rounded up the details for us, Whitman was backpacking in Asia after his second year at UVIC, and was discovered there.

Currently in Milan, the 22-year-old has already modelled in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Seoul and Taipei, where he has worked for the likes of GQ, Prada, Armani and many others.

Whitman even had a stint on a Taiwaese soap opera, for which he had to learn the language.

    Next stop: Paris.

    Next's Sarah Ruba
Long-time followers of Modelresource will definitely remember the summer of 2005, when Sarah Ruba made the kind of debut that is nearly unheard of in this industry... especially for a girl that was never destined for runways.

That's not to say she didn't do shows. She was quite a perfect fit for Betsey Johnson, and did many others as well.

But the Next model's calling has always been the camera, and she has had a remarkable career.

In the past year Ruba has appeared in worldwide campaigns for Converse, Bed Head and Braun. Clinique and Garnier are soon to follow.

Today's update isn't just about what Ruba has done however. This is about what she's doing. One of my favourite faces ever, is moving back to Southern Ontario this week.

I'm certain direct-bookings will keep her busy as well, but for Canadian clients this is really good news.

    B.C.'s Brandon Wilson
You may notice Modelresource's latest featured model, Brandon Wilson, lists Munich's Java as his mother agency.

It's not often Modelresource hears about Canadians finding success so early without home country representation, but this one - less than a year-and-a-half into his career - is doing just fine.

The 6'2" British Columbian, who just completed his first season in Milan, walked for Dolce & Gabbana, Emporio Armani, Giorgio Armani, Frankie Morello, Daniele Alessandrini, Francesco Smalto, Junya Watanabe, Commes des Garçons, and Wooyoungmi, while collecting the editorial.

Next stop: London, where he is placed with Storm.

On this, the day Modelresource features photographer Candace Meyer, we're also showing some of her latest work on this side of the website.

Next's Vancouver new face Alex G is a 5'8" brunette with grey/green eyes, and the most incredible lips!!

    Next's Nicole Sandalis
One of my favourite things to do is spend a day on set, and Monday was one of those good days, observing Lindsey Drennan ( as she shot her contribution for this season's Women x Women.

The image on the right, of Next's Nicole Sandalis, is NOT indicative of the overall theme and there's a reason for that. Although I snapped more than 70 shots from the day's proceedings, the goings-on of this season's WxW are under a blackout until showtime.

So although you can see a bit of Ford's Jenna Judd below, she's purposely blown out to avoid any detail.

Once WxW actually launches at the end of March, I can, and will, share more photos.

Until then I can tell you this:

Nicole, who we first told you about in May is now based in Toronto, and is working her fourth straight full-day booking today.

Jenna meanwhile, is spending more time in Toronto these days, and - not surprisingly - has also been busy of late.

Although I love seeing her beautiful face around the city, I'm hoping Jenna returns to Europe soon. She's one of Modelresource's favourite overseas contributors.

Today I'm loving these new shots of Ottawa's Cassandra Tighe.

    I Model Mgmt's Taylor
    with Next in Toronto/Montréal
    & Wilhelmina in New York
Modelresource had the opportunity to attend the grand opening of Calgary's Fashion Central Thursday evening, in the city's downtown core.

Anchored by a Betsey Johnson boutique, this 28,000 square foot retail area comprises three historic buildings at the corner of Stephen Avenue and 1st Street S.W.

It was there that I snapped the photo below, of photographer Greg Gerla, with I Model Mgmt owner Len Mastaler and one of his agency's new faces.

Taylor, also pictured on the left, flies off to New York tonight, complements of a Calvin Klein direct booking that will keep the 6'2" Calgarian in the Big Apple for several days.

    Chantale Nadeau's Anna Feller
    photo: Donat
Modelresource has been following Vancouver's Anna Feller for a few years now, and frankly we're pretty happy to see her showing up more frequently lately.

The Chantale Nadeau model appeared last month in Russia's Playing Fashion magazine, shot by Alvaro Goveia (, and shows up this week in the brand new Elle Canada, photographed by Leda & St-Jacques (

On the right is another recent image I'm quite liking, shot by Donat (

5'10½" Feller recently jetted off to Germany to build her client base and, according to Nadeau, is planning a sunny escape to Australia in the very near future.

One of Modelresource's favourite designers - the talented Ms. Carlie Wong - is featured in the latest issue of Reach Magazine (pdf version here).

Chosen to showcase Wong's creations are two of Next's rising West Coast stars, Alicia and Tiera.

Score a major campaign appearance for Mode's Gloria Loitz

The Edmonton model - who we first told you about in June - appears in the Spring 2010 ads for United Colors of Benneton, photographed by Josh Olins.

Loitz is managed by One in New York, and represented by Sutherland in Toronto.
