Building a Website

Several resources are available for models wanting to market themselves on the internet. Among the more popular sites used by models are angelfire, homestead, geocities, yahoo's photoalbum and aol's members' pages.

Most are quite easy to use and provide a variety of options for adding pictures and relevant information.

If you are going to use one of these free services to promote yourself to agencies, make sure the site doesn't have a pop-up screen that appears when you log on. It's no use trying to impress an agency if your website is going to annoy them.

When you build your site, keep it professional.

INCLUDE:
  • an e-mail address
  • your real age (not the age you think you look)
  • height
  • measurements (bust, waist, hips)
  • whether or not you have any scars, birthmarks or tattoos (and close-up pictures if you have them)
  • the area you live in


  • DON'T INCLUDE
  • your home address
  • your home phone number
  • bright or distracting wallpaper
  • pictures of your friends
  • your poetry
  • your artwork
  • links to your favourite boyband
  • guestbooks
  • surveys
  • messageboards
  • anything else that will distract from the true purpose of the site


  • OTHERS:
  • Dress size is optional, but not overly important
  • Weight is not important
  • Shoe size only matters if you are still growing.
  • If you are already affiliated with an agency, be sure to mention that. Ideally, add a link to the agency's website.
  • When you choose photos to put on the site, be selective. If you've done a professional shoot, don't include the contact sheets -- just the best pictures.
  • If you have a separate section for the polaroids, that's useful too.
  • Only post what agencies want to see. If your body isn't in the condition you want it to be, don't contact agencies until it is.

    Often models build small websites, ask agencies to review it, then continue to pester the agencies every time they update their site. Agencies won't look at someone who had wasted their time in the past.

    Once your website is built and you're ready to contact agencies, remember to be professional in your correspondance.

    The subject line of your e-mail should be something like "New Face," or "Seeking Representation." It should not say "The Next Supermodel," or "Your Newest Star."
