Modelling in Cape Town

July 2009

Information courtesy: Y Models

Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. And for models, it's the HOTTEST spot to be in-season (which runs from Oct March/April). That's when clients from all over the world come here to shoot both stills and TV Commercials, because we have everything within easy reach (white beaches, palm trees, deserts, wine lands, farms, magnificent homes). Location shooting is easy and hassle free.

What makes this city even more inviting is that we are hosting the 2010 World Cup. It is an incredibly exciting time. Our laid back and very affordable lifestyle - with the added bonus of being in an English speaking country - makes us such a desirable destination for models. Whilst working for top international clients, they can enjoy being in this great rainbow nation. It is an absolute hive of activity; every corner you turn another TVC is being shot. And with great beaches, restaurants and game reserves there is so much to do.

Larger and smaller European catalogue clients: Jean Paul, Esprit, American Vintage, Adler, OTTO, Boden, Ellos, Karstadt, Bilka, Vroom & Dressman, New Yorker, 3 Suisses and many more

Major fashion magazines: Cosmo, Elle, Marie Claire, Brigitte, Grazia, Maedchen, Shape, Glamour and many more

Advertising & retail clients: Schwarzkopf, Nokia, Samsung, Nivea, Marks & Spencers, C&A Clothing, John Orrs, H&M, Kaufhof, Triumph, FA to name but a few.
Models, from top end through to a more commercial "look" work well. The international clients dictate to us what kind of model we bring in, but because our market is so diverse it allows us a little more leeway. Most of our clients love to rebook the models they have met & worked with here. It is such a great opportunity to start building a client base for all models.

Catalogue models (min height of 1.75) can also do lingerie/swimwear, so a B cup is important. This minimum height requirement is because catalogue clients bring in standard size clothes with them, and the models have to fit into those.

For shorter girls ie. 1.72/3 - that can do more TVC's and editorials - bodies must be in great shape.

Guys (min height of 1.81/2 max 1.86/7), with great bodies that are ripped but not too big and bulky (again they won't fit into the clothes). There are a lot of sports catalogues shot here so it is better to be in good shape, and of course for editorials this is important too. Men need good swimwear bodies.
Competition is stiff in this town in season so there is a great standard to aspire to for models.
